Geeks and Hackers
I’m just re-reading Albert László Barabási’s bestseller Linked from 2003.
Despite knowing him in person and because I’m a geek and hacker I’ve just realising now how important this book is for the XXI century.
It was in the front of me the man of the networks, I was dealing every day with networks, I’ve read so many uber geeks and super hackers, investors and so on — all in networks — and nobody ever mentioned him in all these years.
I have a friend, artist, fascinated by and co-working with him. I have a friend in Life Sciences / biology in Oxford idolizing him. And me nothing, yet.
Poor geeks and hackers. We don’t see the forrest from the wood. Pity for us we are blinded by being early adopters of many things we don’t know just use them because of the hype.
We are the most intoxicated, procrastinated and the biggest loosers running after fame, money and mediocrity.
We should step back from real-time to real life. Go back to school, change our false leaders and just take a small look around.
Otherwise we will be just monkeys in this fascinating zoo we build everyday to spend our energies, blindly and for fake returns.
