Future of Journalism = The Personal News Agency
Today industrial society is replaced by information society and the knowledge economy. From instant consumption as a passive player there is a shift for instant production and knowledge creation with active involvement.
Singularity as the next metasystem transition is about the Control of Culture. Spreading memes makes the most important question today.
The 21th century is driven by revolutions opening — napstering — all closed systems. Old media will be opened based on asymmetry as the new world order: small is taking over the huge.
The Digital Society
Near future — the world will be changed by the ability to routinely read genetic sequences into computing systems and then store, replicate, alter and insert them back into living cells (edge.org) — is about digitally cloning yourself, creating alter egos living their own life on the net.
Even today you are constantly digitalizing all your best: your inner self (thoughts on blogs), your social life (what you do and when) and your way to work (Web office, web-based project and product management, marketing and sales).
You are feeding voluntarily the machine, start uploading yourself. You do it alone by free will without the help of an organization, without being influenced by mass manipulation or forced by government structures. You expect no monetization or revenue for your work — it is simply natural evolution.
Your output matters in it’s simplest and clearest way.
Loggorhea of information
The overall presence of information overflow introduces anarchy.
Keeping yourself udpated with the news, getting on the flow is not easy today. Finding a healthy balance between your input — acquiring knowledge — and output — creating knowledge — is the key to your success.
If you don’t do enough research before start working you might skip the latest innovations and trends. You might invent something which by night became obvious and well done by others.
Researching too much without focusing on output will make you unproductive and frustrated, procastinated: you know almost everything but unable to produce what is needed.
You need tools to assure the clairvoyance to your business.
The Personal News Agency
Dealing with information follows the (almost universal) five-step pattern, the tetrad:
sensing > filtering > reasoning > creating > enjoying. It is like
noise > signal > information > action > flow, or,
fear > accept > share > use > love. And many more.
No one has to consider the existence of information sources. They will grow up instantly from individuals, local groups, global communities and professionals specialised on production.
The most important is to find the right channels for you and open as many channels possible inside you to let information flow through your senses.
Don’t bother about acquiring exact knowledge. Let your brain automagically store whatever seems to be important, go and discuss frequently your ideas to distill thoughts and opinions about what you have read. Create knowledge based on feedback.
The tool you need must focus on helping you channeling, tagging, formatting information and producing, sharing results/knowledge. The return will come from surprisingly unseen and now unpredictable receivers. Once you shift from consuming to producing you’ll open channels in other systems willing to recognize your effort.
