Predictions from May 2009

The Flow is an experience of filtering and meta-filtering information from technology, lifehacking, business and science with the eyes of a web hacker.

It is a 3 step process with predictions as a final result.

In the background, as a first step a couple of intensive news sources which are aggregating the most interesting articles from the above domains are read through as a daily routine. Classics like New York Times, New Science, Nature etc are aggregated together with community blogs.

Next from around 300 articles a day aggregated the 5-15 most important ones are selected and presented here as the daily flow.

As a third step, predictions are complied based on the flow trying to resume the trends presented here, predicting the near future in the watched domains.

These predictions are experimental, the goal is to see if filtering, meta-filtering and reasoning about large amount of information is meaningful or not on the long run for a simple guy .

There you are with my first set of Predictions:

Business

  1. Starting up a company will become cheaper and cheaper for everyone. Venture capitalists, angel investors must come up with a new model otherwise they’ll disappear. A good example are the web startups like Facebook or Twitter who if starting up today would not need any financial investors because the high accessibility of the web technology. They will be followed by hardware startups (in max. a couple of years we will have open source mobile phones and internet tables) and later by more complex technologies (open source cars and homes)
  2. Startups will go local. They will spread around the world instead of being incubated in specialized centers like Silicon Valley.

World

  1. China is the key factor in ending up the recession. If US will not start a World War III it will become the looser of the recession. I would not bet on the $.
  2. The world, the information flow is speeding so up humans won’t be able to keep up. To face it Westerners will build robots, the rest of the world will go back to the roots.
  3. Stop Waste! would heal all problems above

Technology

  1. An interactive, digital universe will be created around us. Everything created by man will be controllable via our natural senses: with brain waves, hand touch, skin and eyes. The current multi-touch technology is cheaper than a laptop.

Lifehacking

  1. Sell your knowledge not your time. Quit your job!
